Harvest of greenhouse vegetables in Russia for 2021 may reach 1.6 million tons
The harvest of vegetables in greenhouse complexes in Russia in 2021 exceeded 1.4 million tons, which is higher than the record level of 2020. Of the total harvest volume, the collection of cucumbers and tomatoes amounted to 830 and 590 thousand tons, respectively. According to the statement of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, by 2025, the volume of vegetable production in year-round greenhouses is expected to be at least 1.6 million tons.
The production of vegetables is increasing primarily due to the commissioning of new greenhouse complexes and the modernization of existing ones. In 2021, their areas increased by 6% to 3.2 thousand hectares. At the same time, due to the use of highly productive varieties and modern growing technologies, the yield of vegetables increases annually. In the most modern greenhouses of the fifth generation, it reaches about 100 kg of tomatoes and 160 kg of cucumbers per 1 sq. m.
The measures of state support contribute to the intensive development of greenhouse vegetable growing. Besides, from 2022, part of the costs of building greenhouse enterprises in the regions of the Far East will be compensated.
