Yara is interested in “green” hydrogen

The Norwegian producer of mineral fertilizers Yara International (hereinafter Yara) has joined the HyPilot project to test a 1 MW container electrolyzer developed by Hystar. The commissioning of a pilot sample is scheduled for the second half of next year.
Electrolyzers generate “green” hydrogen by splitting water using electricity, thereby greatly reducing the carbon footprint. At the same time, they are characterized by a significant consumption of electricity, but Hystar said that their electrolyzer will consume 10% less energy compared to existing models.
Yara’s interest in the HyPilot project stems from its plans to use hydrogen to produce “green” ammonia, which is used as a source of nitrogen and complex fertilizers. The company intends to use it to supply one of its enterprises.
