Azotic Technologies Limited, a global leader in sustainable agricultural innovations, has entered the Japanese market through a partnership with Tokyo-based Phytochrome Inc. This collaboration will introduce Azotic’s flagship product, N-Catch, to Japanese farmers, offering a cutting-edge, eco-friendly solution to enhance crop nutrition while promoting sustainable farming practices.

Azotic, headquartered in York, UK, began commercializing its nitrogen-fixing products in North America in 2018 and has since pursued multiple global patents. The company’s foray into Japan is seen as a significant step in its international expansion, aligning with its mission to support on-farm profitability and sustainability through advanced agricultural technology.

At the core of N-Catch’s innovation is the microbe Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd), which a symbiotic relationship with plant roots, stems, and leaves, fixing nitrogen within plant cells. This distinctive mechanism positions Gd as one of the most efficient nitrogen-fixing microbes in agricultural use, providing a powerful bio-stimulant that reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers.

Phytochrome, established in 2002, specializes in bio-stimulant technologies and is recognized for its commitment to sustainable agriculture. By adding N-Catch to its portfolio, Phytochrome aims to strengthen its position as a leading supplier of bio-stimulants in Japan. Keisuke Uchida, President and CEO of Phytochrome, emphasized the company’s dedication to sourcing environmentally beneficial products, highlighting N-Catch’s potential to significantly enhance plant nutrition for Japanese farmers.

Phil Bernardin, Azotic’s Global Business Development representative, acknowledged the strategic importance of this partnership, citing the rigorous efforts undertaken to establish a foothold in Japan’s agricultural market. He noted that Azotic’s collaboration with Phytochrome will enable the delivery of advanced nitrogen-fixing technology to a broader range of farmers, contributing to sustainable agricultural development in the region.

N-Catch is versatile and applicable across various crops, including rice, corn, cereals, vegetables, and fruits, and is available in wettable granule form. This adaptability makes it an attractive option for Japanese farmers aiming to improve yields while reducing their environmental impact.

By combining Azotic’s innovative technology with Phytochrome’s deep market expertise, the partnership is poised to reshape nitrogen management practices in Japan, offering farmers a sustainable pathway to meet their production goals.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
