Iraq approves new phosphate fertilizer complex in Anbar

The Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals has obtained government consent to initiate two significant projects aimed at enhancing the nation’s strategic sectors. The Higher Committee for Reconstruction and Investment officially sanctioned these developments during its session on February 9, 2025.

A key project is the establishment of a fully integrated phosphate fertilizer complex in Anbar, developed in collaboration with a private contractor. The facility will produce 1 million tons of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer annually, in addition to 500,000 tons of Triple Superphosphate (TSP), and will also manufacture sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and ammonia.

This initiative is expected to leverage Iraq’s ample phosphate reserves, bolstering economic security and self-reliance in fertilizer production.
