Nutrien launches $1,000 contest challenging FFA chapters to master digital farm management

FFA chapters across the country now have a chance to win cash prizes while testing their agricultural skills in a digital farming simulation, as Nutrien Ag Solutions announces its Farmers 2050 Contest running through early November.
The competition, part of the National FFA Global Event Contest, will award $1,000 to the first-place chapter, $500 to second place, and $250 to third place based on performance in Farmers 2050, a farm management game previously known as Journey 2050.
“Farmers 2050 is as close as you can get to the realities of owning and operating a farm in a gaming format,” said Spencer Harris, Senior Vice President of Global Retail Operations and member of the National FFA Foundation Sponsors Board. “It’s a great educational resource for students interested in pursuing a career in the agriculture industry because it simulates the decision-making process that farmers are faced with each day.”

The contest gameplay window runs from 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, through 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2. Each participating chapter can register up to 50 players to compete as a team, with contest rules available on the official homepage.
At the National FFA Convention, Nutrien Ag Solutions will operate booth #630, offering additional experiences beyond the gaming contest. Students can enter a giveaway for co-branded National FFA and Nutrien sneakers, receive customized airbrush t-shirts, and attend educational presentations about Nutrien’s agronomy drone technology. The drone presentations are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30, with a final session at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31.
The convention also holds special significance for Harris personally, as he will receive an Honorary American Degree on Friday morning.
“FFA has been a huge part of my life and has helped shape me in so many ways,” Harris said. “I’m incredibly grateful to the National FFA Organization for this honor and to be trusted with the responsibility of representing my teammates at Nutrien Ag Solutions on the National FFA Foundation Sponsors Board.”
Nutrien Ag Solutions has supported FFA for over 45 years. Last year, the company committed $850,000 over three years to fund competitive event support, professional development for advisors, and a $10,000 scholarship for National FFA Officers. The investment also includes $5,000 grants available to alumni chapters for programming support.
