UK launches consultation on Sumitomo Chemical’s fungicide ingredient inpyrfluxam

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has opened a public consultation on the proposed approval of inpyrfluxam, a new fungicide active ingredient from Sumitomo Chemical intended for use in cereal crops.
According to the HSE, the active substance, also known as S-2399, is intended for plant protection products targeting foliar diseases in winter and spring wheat, winter and spring barley, and durum wheat. The application marks the first request for approval of inpyrfluxam in Great Britain under assimilated Regulation No. 1107/2009, with the assessment carried out by the HSE’s Chemicals Regulation Division.
The regulator invites stakeholders and the public to comment on the Draft Assessment Report or submit additional relevant information. The consultation is open until July 4, 2026.
The HSE notes that pesticides remain within the scope of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement currently being negotiated between the UK and the European Union. The agency will provide further guidance on sector implications once negotiations conclude.
