Russia extends sulfur export ban through end-2026

Russia has extended its temporary ban on exports of certain types of sulfur through the end of 2026. The government aims to protect domestic supply and support food security by maintaining restrictions on this key raw material for fertilizer production.
According to the Russian government’s press service, as reported by TASS, the measure applies to liquid, granulated, and lump sulfur. Officials stated that the extension aims to maintain current fertilizer production volumes and ensure a stable domestic supply. Export restrictions do not apply to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union: Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The sulfur export restrictions were first introduced in November 2025 to stabilize raw material availability in Russia amid concerns about domestic supply. Sulfur is essential for producing phosphate fertilizers, making its availability crucial for the fertilizer industry and agriculture.
