India’s RCF awards 1.78 million metric tons of urea to 8 suppliers in August tender

India’s state-owned Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers has awarded approximately 1.78 million metric tons of urea to eight suppliers in its latest international tender, according to Indian Fertilizer, a trade data service. The volume exceeded the original 1.7 million metric ton target split between 1 million metric tons for India’s west coast and 700,000 metric tons for the east coast.

The award followed bids from 21 suppliers offering a combined 2.57 million metric tons when commercial offers opened on August 11 — a strong oversubscription that reflected improving supply conditions compared with earlier rounds. India’s previous NFL tender in June drew bids near $449 per metric ton CFR, roughly half the $935–959 per metric ton prices seen during the April crisis-era procurement when Hormuz disruptions were at their most severe.

Market participants consider the RCF tender result one of the most important pricing signals for global urea in Q3 2026. The tender required all shipments to be completed by September 24, ahead of India’s rabi planting season. This was the third major urea procurement round of the current campaign, following the April IPL tender (2.5 million metric tons) and the June NFL round (1.77 million metric tons).
