The state of Sri Lanka sticks to their plans

The Ministry of Agriculture of Sri Lanka announced the import of 30 thousand tons of organic fertilizers. They have already been sent to distribution centers of the country and then will be provided to farmers.

A few months ago, the government of Sri Lanka banned the import of mineral fertilizers, thereby encouraging farmers to switch to organic farming. However, farmers organized massive protests since they became worried about the possible decline in yields of tea, rice, and vegetables. The imported organic fertilizers from China contain E. coli bacteria which is dangerous to human health.

Nevertheless, the authorities of Sri Lanka do not make concessions to farmers and are heading for the import of organic fertilizers.
