Achema intends to restart its ammonia production

Lithuanian producer of nitrogen fertilizers, Achema, plans to restart ammonia production. However, the output volume will be far from the full loading.

“After assessing the changed situation in the gas market, we decided to partially resume production and relaunch the ammonia unit No. 1,” said Achema representative Jolita Macelyte.

In September of this year, Achema stopped operations due to the rise in the price of natural gas, which made the production of nitrogen fertilizers unprofitable.

Achema is the only company in Lithuania that produces nitrogen fertilizers – carbamide, ammonium and calcium ammonium nitrate. At the same time, it’s the largest consumer of natural gas in the country.
