French farmers will increase sowing of wheat and rapeseed
The Ministry of Agriculture of France has changed its previously made forecast for sowing winter wheat, barley and rapeseed for this year’s harvest.
Now crops of winter soft wheat are estimated at 4.76 million hectares against the forecast made in December 2022 of 4.75 million tons. Thus, their area should increase by 2% compared to the level of 2022.
Expectations regarding the sowing of durum wheat remained unchanged: its area should be reduced by 4.8% to 233 thousand hectares.
The estimated area under winter rapeseed has increased from 1.29 to 1.34 million hectares and will be 9% higher than last year. The same will happen with winter barley: its crops will expand from the predicted 1.3 million hectares to 1.34 million hectares, exceeding the result of 2022 by 3.7%.
