Cinis Fertilizer ships first eco-friendly potassium sulphate to Van Iperen
Cinis Fertilizer has dispatched its first shipment of environmentally friendly potassium sulphate from Köpmanholmen, Sweden, to Van Iperen International in the Netherlands. The shipment, amounting to over 3,400 tonnes, represents a key development for the company, which has focused on building an energy-efficient plant designed to minimize the carbon footprint of its production process. Construction of the plant began just over 18 months ago, and operations were launched in May 2024.
The shipment comprises two-thirds of high-quality, water-soluble potassium sulphate that meets all specification requirements, while the remainder—produced during the plant’s start-up phase—will be sold to customers with less stringent quality demands.
Strategic partnership with Van Iperen International
Cinis Fertilizer’s delivery is the first under a ten-year contract with Van Iperen International, a Dutch fertilizer producer with a global presence. Under this agreement, Van Iperen will purchase the plant’s entire annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes of potassium sulphate.
Cinis Fertilizer’s CEO, Jakob Liedberg, noted that the shipment was a significant milestone in the company’s journey, attributing the success to the efforts of its employees. He highlighted the company’s rapid progress in establishing and operating a new production facility and delivering a product aimed at reducing agriculture’s carbon footprint. According to Liedberg, this shipment also underscores Cinis Fertilizer’s ability to manufacture potassium sulphate using a fossil fuel-free production process, positioning the company to expand further and influence the transition toward greener fertilizer production.
Supporting sustainable agriculture
Van Iperen International’s CEO, Erik van den Bergh, praised Cinis Fertilizer for achieving high production levels with the right product quality in a short time frame. He emphasized the importance of providing customers with a greener alternative to traditional fertilizer products and expressed confidence in the future partnership with Cinis Fertilizer.
As Cinis Fertilizer continues its collaboration with Van Iperen International, both companies aim to play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable fertilizer production globally, leveraging innovations to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly solutions in agriculture.
