Seipasa, a Spanish company specializing in the development and production of bioinsecticides, biofungicides, biostimulants, and agricultural nutritional treatments, has announced a major milestone for its bioinsecticide Pirecris. The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food has granted an extension to the product’s approved applications, now including stone and pome fruit trees, berries such as strawberries and blueberries, as well as apricots and persimmons.

This regulatory advancement broadens the scope of Pirecris, allowing it to combat pests across a wider range of high-value crops. The expanded use offers growers an additional biocontrol option, especially valuable within integrated pest management strategies where rotating active molecules is critical.

Francisco Romero, Seipasa’s sales manager for Spain, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that this extension reinforces Seipasa’s standing as a leader in biocontrol solutions, with a portfolio featuring more than 70 phytosanitary registrations in over 30 countries.

Romero emphasized that the new approved uses enable growers to access an effective and sustainable alternative to manage some of the most challenging pests affecting these crops. He pointed out the increasing regulatory restrictions in Europe on chemically synthesized active ingredients, underscoring the importance of developing biocontrol products like Pirecris. These innovations aim to provide sustainable, residue-free solutions that meet stringent safety standards.

A powerful bioinsecticide with innovative formulation

Pirecris stands out for its patented formulation, which combines PI and PII molecules in an optimal balance. This unique composition delivers maximum insecticidal efficacy while minimizing the amount of active ingredient required. The product targets pests by blocking their respiratory systems, effectively killing eggs and larvae and curbing subsequent generations.

In addition to its effectiveness, Pirecris addresses key concerns for modern agriculture. It does not generate pest resistance, leaves no chemical residues on treated fruit, and features a short safety period, enabling applications close to harvest. These attributes make it a preferred choice for growers focused on sustainability and consumer safety.

Seipasa’s commitment to innovation and sustainability continues to position the company as a leader in the agricultural sector reaffirming its dedication to providing practical, eco-friendly solutions to farmers worldwide.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
