Brooke Rollins named Agriculture Secretary as Trump finalizes cabinet
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Brooke Rollins to serve as the Secretary of Agriculture in his second administration, marking the completion of his executive agency appointments. Rollins, a longtime Trump associate, will require Senate confirmation when Republicans take control on January 20, 2025. She is set to succeed Tom Vilsack, who led the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under President Joe Biden.
Rollins’ background and Trump connection
Rollins, 52, holds a degree in agricultural development from Texas A&M University and a law degree from the University of Texas. Her professional trajectory includes serving as Trump’s domestic policy chief during his first term and leading the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a think tank designed to advance Trump’s policy agenda. Rollins also has experience as a litigation attorney and previously worked under former Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Known for her loyalty to Trump, Rollins has been described as a key figure in shaping the administration’s policy framework. Her nomination reflects Trump’s preference for experienced insiders with proven allegiance.
Agricultural leaders have cautiously welcomed Rollins’ nomination, noting her rural roots and leadership background. National Farmers Union President Rob Larew expressed hope that Rollins’ upbringing in agricultural communities would guide her decisions.
