PI Industries strengthens biological portfolio with C-CAMP deal

PI Industries, a leader in agri-sciences, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), a premier initiative under India’s Department of Biotechnology. The collaboration marks a significant step in advancing biocontrol technologies, reinforcing India’s position as a global hub for agricultural innovation.
Under the agreement, C-CAMP has transferred two innovative biocontrol technologies—AphidControl and XanthoControl—to PI Industries on an exclusive basis. These pioneering solutions offer environmentally friendly alternatives to chemical pesticides, addressing major agricultural challenges:
- AphidControl is a botanical insecticide targeting aphids, a pest responsible for yield losses of up to 60% in various crops. The technology has the potential to benefit over 25 million farmers.
- XanthoControl is a biocontrol agent combating Xanthomonas species, a pathogen causing severe crop diseases that can lead to yield losses of up to 80%. This innovation could support more than 45 million farmers in managing plant diseases effectively.
Founded in 1946, PI Industries has evolved into a leading player in agri-sciences and is now expanding into the broader life sciences domain. The company is known for its innovation-led growth and commitment to sustainability, developing advanced solutions that reduce environmental impact while delivering long-term value to farmers and stakeholders worldwide.
PI Industries has been expanding its presence in the biological sector, with its biological product portfolio witnessing a 45% revenue growth over the past two years. This latest collaboration complements its ongoing investments in sustainable agricultural solutions, strengthening its global strategy. Leveraging its robust R&D capabilities and international distribution network, PI aims to commercialize these biocontrol technologies across key global markets.
C-CAMP, one of India’s largest bio-incubators, has nurtured over 60 high-impact innovations in biosciences, many of which have successfully reached commercialization. By collaborating with PI Industries, C-CAMP aims to accelerate the adoption of next-generation biocontrol solutions, furthering its mission to drive transformative advancements in agriculture and industrial biotechnology.
