Terra Robotics raises €1.8 million to bring laser weeding technology to market

      Share

Terra Robotics, a Greek agri-tech startup developing laser-based weeding systems, has raised nearly €1.8 million (about $1.9 million) to advance commercialization of its TerraWeeder technology and make sustainable, automated farming more accessible to growers of all sizes.

The funding round was led by Athens-based venture capital firm Uni.Fund, with continued participation from Genesis Ventures, Helidoni Group, and the Hellenic Business Angels Network (HeBAN). New investors, including Argyris Kaninis, also joined the round.

“With this strong and diverse group of backers, we have built the ideal foundation to accelerate commercialization and bring our laser weeder to farmers worldwide,” said Konstantinos Kandylas, chief executive and co-founder of Terra Robotics. “Their commitment enables us to stay true to our farmer-oriented approach and focus on solving agriculture’s number one challenge: weeding.”

The company plans to use the new capital to expand its engineering and operations teams, complete product development, and launch pilot projects before scaling production. Terra Robotics also intends to deepen partnerships with farmers and agricultural organizations ahead of market rollout.

The TerraWeeder uses robotics, artificial intelligence, and precision lasers to automate weed control, reducing dependence on herbicides and manual labor. The company says the system can help farmers cut costs and improve efficiency while supporting the shift toward more sustainable practices.

Investors said Terra Robotics illustrates how Greek technology ventures are beginning to play a larger role in global agriculture.
“Terra Robotics stands at the intersection of deep tech and real farming experience,” said Dora Trachana, partner and chief executive at Uni.Fund. “We believe their work will not only reshape how farming is done but also inspire more world-class innovation to emerge from Greece.”

Genesis Ventures co-founder Dimitris Maroulis described the startup as an example of “engineering excellence combined with farmer insight,” while Helidoni Group’s managing director, Alexis Zitrides, said the TerraWeeder “has the potential to become a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture.”

Founded in Thessaloniki, Terra Robotics develops robotic tools aimed at improving efficiency, reducing chemical use, and making advanced farming technology affordable to more producers. The company’s expansion comes amid growing investor interest in agricultural automation, as farmers worldwide face labor shortages, climate pressures, and rising input costs.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
