NPHarvest secures up to €1.2 million from Business Finland to scale its nutrient recovery technology

NPHarvest, a Finnish cleantech company, will receive up to €1.2 million (about $1.3 million) from Business Finland’s Deep Tech Accelerator program to advance the commercialization of nutrient recovery technology for fertilizer production. The funding will be provided in three phases, each linked to technical and commercial milestones, to support scaling systems that extract nitrogen and phosphorus from liquid waste streams.
This funding comes as Europe faces increasing challenges in managing nutrient-rich waste from the expanding waste-to-energy sector. In areas such as Northern Germany, Northern France, and the Benelux, stricter nitrogen limits have made local reuse of liquid digestate difficult, requiring operators to transport excess waste over longer distances at higher costs. NPHarvest’s technology addresses this issue by converting waste-derived nutrients into fertilizer inputs that can be redistributed to regions with demand.
The company stated that this funding builds on €2.2 million (about $2.4 million) previously raised from investors such as Nordic Foodtech VC and the Finnish Ministry of the Environment, as well as on technical progress achieved in 2025. Achievements include launching an industrial-scale demonstration unit in Ankara and field trials with the University of Helsinki, which showed recycled nutrients perform comparably to conventional synthetic fertilizers. With accelerator funding, NPHarvest plans to pursue full-scale commercialization and broader deployment across European agricultural and industrial markets.
