VOC Port signs MoU with AM Green for 1 million t/yr renewable ammonia plant at Thoothukudi

Indian green energy developer AM Green has signed a memorandum of understanding with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust (VOC Port) in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, for a one-million-tonne-per-year renewable ammonia production facility.
The project would position the southern India deepwater port as a green ammonia export hub, supplying international shipping and industrial markets with clean fuel derived from solar and wind power. Thoothukudi is one of three Indian ports designated as a pilot ammonia bunkering hub under the country’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.
AM Green has been active across India’s nascent green ammonia infrastructure. The company earlier reached a final investment decision on a plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, and signed a port agreement at the same site to deepen its export-focused strategy. The Thoothukudi MoU extends AM Green’s footprint to the southern coast, where the combination of strong renewable resources and export shipping access offers competitive project economics.
The agreement adds to a growing pipeline of Indian green ammonia capacity announcements driven by the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s competitive auctions under the SIGHT programme, which have produced 10-year supply contracts at prices well below global benchmarks.
