Mosaic launches first Latin America biological in Paraguay after 10-year push

The Mosaic Company has launched PowerCoat, a Bacillus-based biological fertilizer complement, in Paraguay after Paraguayan authorities approved it for commercial sale, marking Mosaic’s first biological product launch in Latin America following roughly a decade of research, the company’s Brazil and Paraguay country manager Eduardo Monteiro said. PowerCoat is impregnated onto dry granular fertilizer and uses spore-forming Bacillus strains that solubilize soil nutrients, improving uptake and plant vigor, according to Mosaic.

Mosaic commercial vice president Felipe Pecci said the strain selection gives PowerCoat a two-year shelf life, well above the market average, after years of testing compatibility between the biological strains and mineral fertilizer — a combination he said most competitors have struggled to achieve. Mosaic opened Latin America’s only laboratory capable of testing that fertilizer-biological compatibility in Uberaba, Brazil, earlier this year and has already begun field trials there.

Mosaic cannot yet launch PowerCoat in Brazil, Latin America’s largest fertilizer market, because the country’s 2024 bioinputs law still lacks the implementing decree needed to authorize microbial products combined with mineral fertilizers; Mosaic Biosciences director Alexandre Alves said the relevant rules remain in draft form in the vice president’s office. The Paraguay launch extends a broader push by Mosaic Biosciences, which doubled its biologicals revenue on five new product launches in the first half of 2026 and has set a target of $100 million in biologicals revenue by 2030.
