      Never miss important fertilizer news

Mosaic Biosciences reported $25 million in Q2 2026 revenue and is on track to double its full-year 2025 sales, CEO Bruce Bodine said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call on August 5. The biological crop nutrition division launched five new products in the first half of 2026, bringing its active portfolio to more than a dozen formulations targeting nutrient uptake, soil biology and plant stress tolerance.

“Our Biosciences business continues to deliver real value to growers and real growth to Mosaic,” Bodine said. “We see biologicals as a fundamental complement to our mineral nutrition portfolio.”

The division’s growth stands in sharp contrast to Mosaic’s core phosphate operations, which posted a $273 million net loss in Q2 amid sulfur-driven cost inflation. Biosciences operates on a higher-margin, lower-capital model that has made it an increasingly important contributor to the company’s earnings diversification strategy.

Product launches in H1 2026 included formulations for corn starter programs, soybean inoculants and micronutrient blends designed to improve phosphate availability in the root zone. The division also announced a joint development partnership with Elicit Plant for canola water-stress biologicals in North America.

Mosaic Biosciences distributes through Mosaic’s existing retail and wholesale network, giving it access to growers across the Americas without building a standalone sales force. The company has not disclosed a standalone revenue target for the division but has indicated it expects biologicals to become a material earnings contributor by 2028.

The biologicals push mirrors moves by competitors. BASF, Corteva and Syngenta have each acquired or invested in biological platforms over the past three years, and the global agricultural biologicals market is projected to exceed $20 billion by 2027.

It is alarming to see these developments in California. As a vineyard grower, I have faced significant challenges this year, with fertilizer costs rising sharply while market conditions have made it difficult to sell the harvest.
