Woodside’s 1.1 million-ton Texas ammonia plant joins certification pilot

Woodside Energy’s Beaumont New Ammonia plant in Texas has joined the Ammonia Energy Association’s certification pilot, expanding the initiative to a facility with annual capacity of 1.1 million tons. Production began in December 2025, while the company is targeting lower-carbon ammonia output in 2027, the association said October 6.
The voluntary certification system uses independently verified data to document ammonia’s origin and greenhouse gas footprint. Its registry, developed and operated by MiQ, tracks certificates from production through trading and retirement. The framework supports segregated, mass-balance and book-and-claim supply-chain models, and measures site-specific emissions on a well-to-gate basis across production pathways.
Association Executive Director Trevor Brown said Beaumont’s participation would test the registry’s ability to accommodate production at million-ton scale. Woodside Vice President for Beaumont New Ammonia Kellyanne Lochan said the company supports greater transparency as the lower-carbon ammonia market develops. The pilot began in September with Envision Energy; the association has not announced an end date.
