Herbicide production in Russia may exceed 100 thousand tons

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, in the January-September period this year, the production of herbicides and fungicides in Russia increased by 6.2% to 83 thousand tons and by 22.1% to 29.5 thousand tons, respectively.

The Federal State Statistics Service reports that the largest volume of the herbicide production of 13.4 thousand tons during this period was recorded in March, while the smallest of 4.1 thousand tons was observed in July. The output of fungicides reached its maximum in April and minimum in August.

“With the current dynamics of the production of plant protection products, we can expect that by the end of 2021, the production of herbicides in Russia will amount to 95-104 thousand tons and fungicides 36-40 thousand tons. In 2022, it may remain at the level of 2021 due to difficulties experienced by the agriculture of Russia, including the rise in pesticide prices,” said Andrey Viktorov, Editor of Fertilizer Daily. “At the same time, their pricing is not transparent, and a relatively small circle of large producers, such as Bayer, BASF, Schelkovo Agrohim, and Avgust, formed on the Russian market, may impose their conditions on agricultural enterprises and farmers.”
