Krasnodar region will not expand the area of spring crops
This year, the Krasnodar region plans to sow spring crops on the territory of approximately 1.8 million hectares, the same level as in 2021.
“As of today, the situation in the fields is favorable, the snowy winter allowed the soil to absorb moisture. This year, as in 2021, we will allocate about 1.8 million hectares under spring crops. To count on a good harvest, farmers of the region should be fully provided with seeds and fertilizers, agricultural machinery, and fuel. The sowing of spring crops needs to be completed by May 1, rice and soybeans — by May 15,” said the Governor of the Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev.
He noted that this year the area under soybeans will increase by 23 thousand hectares, peas by 13 thousand hectares, and sugar beets by 8 thousand hectares. These export-oriented crops are the basis for products of deep processing.
Andrey Korobka, Deputy Governor of the Krasnodar region, said that the seasonal fieldwork had already begun. Farmers began the first feeding of winter crops with nitrogen fertilizers and sowing peas.
“The start of the main sowing is scheduled for early March. Farmers are fully provided with all material and technical resources. We purchased the necessary amount of mineral fertilizers at fixed preferential prices. The need for seeds and fuel has been also met in full. Over 33 thousand units of equipment will be involved in agricultural work. At the same time, the renewal of the car park continues. Last year, the Krasnodar region purchased 3.4 thousand vehicles for a record amount of over 17.6 billion rubles (almost $210 million). The minimum plan for this year is 2.5 thousand new units of agricultural equipment,” said Andrey Korobka.
