Engineering solutions company KBR announced that it has secured a contract to license its cutting-edge phenol technology to SABIC Fujian Petrochemicals for use in a new plant in China. The agreement includes the provision of technology licensing and proprietary engineering designs for a 250 KTA phenol production facility at SABIC’s complex in Fujian.

This new partnership follows the final investment decision made in January 2024, with the plant expected to be fully operational by the fiscal year 2026. KBR’s phenol technology is recognized for its sustainability features, such as reduced energy requirements and enhanced yields, which align with modern environmental standards and improve the plant’s operational efficiency.

Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “We are excited to offer our industry-leading phenol technology to SABIC Fujian for this ambitious project in China,” he stated. Ibrahim highlighted that KBR’s technology not only boosts clients’ competitiveness but also supports their sustainability goals through superior efficiency, reliability, wastewater recovery, and overall performance.

KBR has been a prominent provider of phenol technology globally for over six decades, successfully completing more than 50 phenol projects around the world, which underscores its extensive experience and commitment to advancing chemical processing technology.
