Omya announces completion of key upgrades at Kansas fertilizer plant

Omya, a prominent global producer of industrial minerals and distributor of specialty ingredients, has recently completed the first stage of upgrades at its specialty fertilizer granulation plant in Wathena, Kansas. The company, which acquired the facility in 2022, is committed to transforming it into a high-performance workplace with significant opportunities for employee advancement.
The upgrades, which represent a substantial investment of $6 million in plant assets and infrastructure, aim to elevate the facility to Omya’s global standards. Improvements include advanced controls on dust collectors and substantial health and safety enhancements. A new hiring campaign has also increased the workforce by 40%, offering salaries above the community average.
These improvements are part of a broader strategy to enhance product quality and service for the Midwest agricultural sector, particularly in crop nutrition and soil conditioning products. The facility now provides expanded access to high-quality specialty fertilizers for a variety of markets, including row and specialty crops, turfgrass, and home retail.
The investment not only boosts the facility’s operational standards but also positions Omya further to solidify its presence in the heartland of the U.S., promising to deliver top-tier agricultural products to Midwest farmers for years to come. This initiative reflects Omya’s long-term commitment to its employees and to maintaining a world-class production environment.
