New Pakistan’s AgriTech expo aims to bring agricultural innovation
An international exhibition and conference, “AgriTech: Feeding the Future,” will take place on August 28 at the Karachi Expo Centre in Sindh Province, Pakistan. The event is designed to highlight technological advancements and innovative practices within the agricultural sector. Its primary goals are to enhance farming methods, improve efficiency, and increase productivity, with robust support from both local and global stakeholders, including Pakistan’s government, regional banks, the food industry, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Acting President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), stated that the FPCCI and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) are organizing this pivotal conference as part of the Best of Entrepreneurship Asia Series. Mr. Jam Kamal, the Federal Minister for Commerce, will grace the event as the chief guest.
The conference has garnered substantial support from significant entities such as UNIDO and ITCN Asia, with Al Baraka Bank and Unity Foods as the main sponsors. Mr. Magoon emphasized the conference’s objectives to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional trade, particularly focusing on sustainable agriculture, tourism development, and digital economy investments.
Mr. Magoon highlighted the crucial challenge of food security, noting that while global food production is adequate, accessibility and affordability remain substantial barriers exacerbated by income inequality, economic instability, climate change, conflicts, and unemployment. He pointed out the urgent need for improvements in supply chain management, post-harvest handling, storage, and logistics.
The event will engage a diverse group of participants, including national and international stakeholders, diplomats, academics, business leaders, agricultural financial institutions, and government representatives. Expected attendees include delegations from the UAE, Thailand, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Morocco, among others. The conference will also facilitate B2B matchmaking, providing a platform for Pakistan’s private sector to explore investment opportunities, trade facilitation, and joint ventures with these countries. Additionally, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) will participate in the conference.
