Indorama’s Adufértil and Raízen pioneer sustainable fertilizer initiative in Brazil using vinasse

Indorama’s subsidiary Adufértil and local energy giant Raízen have successfully implemented a novel storage and injection system for liquid fertilizers across multiple locations. This initiative, which commenced in 2022, saw the delivery of approximately 90,000 tons of liquid fertilizer in 2024 alone.
The solution integrates a variety of liquid fertilizers enriched with nitrogen (N), phosphate (P2O5), and sulfur (S), and uniquely incorporates vinasse, a byproduct of sugarcane ethanol production, rich in potassium (K2O). Historically viewed as an environmental liability, vinasse is now repurposed as a sustainable soil enhancer, illustrating a shift towards more environmentally responsible farming practices.
The collaboration highlights Indorama’s strategic expansion within Brazil, following its acquisition of 100% shares in Brazilian fertilizer distributor Adufértil Fertilizantes and its local subsidiary Agromaster Rio Preto Comercio De Produtos Agropecuarious in 2021. This acquisition has positioned Indorama as a major player in one of the world’s largest fertilizer markets, with the firm distributing over one million tons of fertilizers annually and bolstering its customer base significantly.
