Uralchem highlights the importance of fertilizer aid at Red Cross event on Africa’s food security

Uralchem participated in an expert discussion on food security in Africa, held on April 3, 2025, and organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. The event convened representatives from international organizations, government agencies, academia, the private sector, and humanitarian entities engaged with the African continent.
The discussion addressed the growing humanitarian challenges related to food insecurity in Africa and examined the contributions of Russian and international actors toward agricultural development and crisis mitigation. The role of Russian fertilizer producers, including Uralchem, was a focal point, particularly in the context of enabling local food production.
During the event, Uralchem representatives presented a summary of the company’s humanitarian fertilizer initiatives. Since late 2022, the Uralchem Group has donated more than 134,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizers to African countries, covering shipping and associated logistics costs. More than 111,000 tonnes were delivered to Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe through a partnership with the United Nations, targeting regions at high risk of famine.
Olga Poltavskaya, Marketing Director of Uralchem, emphasized the continent’s potential for agricultural growth and the company’s broader role in supporting African farming systems.
“Africa has enormous potential for developing the agro-industrial complex and significantly increasing the use of fertilizers,” Poltavskaya said. “Uralchem welcomes long-term cooperation with African countries to ensure sustainable agricultural development, not only through fertilizer supply but also via agronomic support and field trials with local institutions.”
The company reiterated its objective to contribute to hunger eradication in Africa by expanding access to agricultural technologies and enhancing collaboration with regional stakeholders.
