Syngenta plans to launch the HPPD-tolerant soybeans by 2029

Syngenta and M.S. Technologies plan to introduce a new generation of soybean traits with tolerance to HPPD-inhibiting herbicides, targeting broad commercial availability by 2029.
The companies said the technology will allow soybeans to tolerate herbicides such as mesotrione, isoxaflutole and bicyclopyrone, in addition to the existing Enlist E3 trait. The expanded tolerance is intended to give farmers greater flexibility in controlling resistant weeds such as pigweed, waterhemp and kochia, particularly under conditions of planting delays or seed changes.
“This new technology represents the future of weed control flexibility in soybeans,” said Jared Benson, head of soybean portfolio strategy at Syngenta. “By pairing broad-spectrum herbicide tolerance with Syngenta’s leadership in soybean genetics and crop protection, this trait stack will give farmers a tool to manage resistant weeds, reduce injury risk and simplify operations.”
Introductory seed volumes are expected in 2028, with a full market release planned for the following year, subject to regulatory approvals. Distribution will be through Syngenta seed brands, Stine Seed Company, and other partners.
