Uzbekistan fertilizer exports to EU targeted at $500 million a year, more than double 2025 levels

Uzbekistan fertilizer exports to the European Union should gradually reach $500 million a year, more than double current levels, the country’s Investment, Industry and Trade Ministry said on September 21, according to Interfax. EU countries imported $233.5 million worth of Uzbek fertilizer in 2025, UN Comtrade data show.

The target follows Uzbekistan’s push at SPACE 2026, the agricultural show held in Rennes, France, on September 15–17, where leading Uzbek chemical companies exhibited on a Made in Uzbekistan stand. The ministry said talks with European importers and distributors produced a concrete result. Uzkimyoimpeks signed an agreement with French company Eudaira to deliver 10,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizer to France by the end of 2026.

Uzkimyoimpeks is the sole export-import agent for companies in the state chemical group Uzkimyosanoat. Group enterprises exported $329 million of chemical products in the first half of 2026, with urea, ammonium nitrate and superphosphate making up a significant share, Trend reported. The ministry did not give a target date for the $500 million goal.

Uzbek producers are seeking a larger share of an EU market that remains heavily import-dependent. The opportunity comes with a cost. The EU carbon border levy now applies to fertilizer imports, and lawmakers are weighing an expansion of CBAM and a new fertilizer fund. Emissions data from gas-based Uzbek plants will decide how competitive their product is at the EU border. The France contract is small, but it gives Uzkimyoimpeks a reference deal to build on.
