GSFC green ammonia plan seeks strategic partners to unlock 500,000 t/yr Gujarat export project

Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals (GSFC) has invited expressions of interest from Indian and international companies, consortia, and investors to form a joint venture for a GSFC green ammonia plant with a capacity of at least 500,000 metric tons per year. The plant would be built at the company’s Sikka unit in Jamnagar, Gujarat, Indian Chemical News reported on Oct. 1, 2026.
GSFC, a fertilizer and chemicals producer promoted by the Gujarat state government, is offering the site and existing infrastructure. That includes a dedicated jetty for vessels of up to 33,000 deadweight tons with a 10.5-meter draft, an existing pipeline of 8 to 10 kilometers and 30,000 metric tons of refrigerated ammonia storage at the Sikka Shore Terminal. The company also brings its regulatory relationships and an established operating platform, according to the report.
The partner is expected to supply capital, access to electrolyzer and ammonia synthesis technology, project development capability and links to green ammonia buyers in Europe, Japan and South Korea. GSFC said the existing assets would place the project among the lowest-cost and fastest-to-market green ammonia developments, a claim that has not been independently tested. The report gave no investment estimate or construction timeline. The plan follows a 10 megawatt pilot electrolyzer project at the company’s Vadodara site.
The emphasis on offtake reflects where Indian export projects are now being decided. AM Green recently won a 10-year H2Global contract worth at least EUR 585 million (USD 662 million) to supply ammonia from Kakinada to Germany. The next marker for the GSFC green ammonia venture is the selection of a partner able to bring a comparable long-term buyer.
