JERA signs deal for 70,000 tonnes a year of green ammonia from AM Green

Japan’s largest power generator, JERA, has signed a binding heads of agreement with Indian green ammonia producer AM Green to power ships with green ammonia. The two companies signed on October 27.
AM Green will supply about 70,000 tonnes a year of green ammonia over five years, and the supply term may be extended. The ammonia will come from AM Green’s Kakinada facility in Andhra Pradesh, which is due to be commissioned in 2028/29.
A binding heads of agreement sets the main terms, but a final supply contract and construction of the plant still have to happen before any ammonia is delivered.
Separately, a group of seven Japanese companies announced on November 2 an ammonia-fueled shipping route from the Chubu region, with JERA as the buyer of the fuel.
BC Insight’s earlier coverage from March 2025 reported that AM Green had chosen Casale as technology partner for converting the Kakinada complex to green ammonia.
