Uralchem expands to Nigeria

Uralchem is preparing to open its representative office in Nigeria soon. Plans for the development of cooperation between Russia and Nigeria were discussed at a meeting in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia (Moscow).

The meeting was attended by Dmitry Konyaev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uralchem, Sergei Katyrin, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Abdullahi Shehu, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Russia.

Dmitry Konyaev, elected in May 2021 as the new Сhairman of the Russia-Nigeria business council, announced to the meeting that Uralchem intends to open its office in Nigeria. They also plan to build a plant in the future. Dmitry Konyaev explained that these plans are driven by the great potential of the Nigerian market for the supply of mineral fertilizers.

“Nigeria is the largest market in Africa, local agriculture has to meet the ever-growing demand for food, therefore they need to use modern fertilizers and advanced technologies. Nigeria is a strategic direction for Uralchem and Uralkali. We are preparing to implement a joint project for the production of fertilizers with a Nigerian partner,” said Dmitry Konyaev.

Besides developing the partnership in the field of economics and business, Dmitry Konyaev noted the importance of exchanging experience in science and agriculture. One of the tools for developing cooperation can be studying and training for students from Nigeria in Russian agricultural universities.

Abdullahi Shehu, in turn, noted the stability in relations between the two countries. The Ambassador as an example of mutually beneficial and active cooperation and invited other Russian companies to actively participate in the development of relations and not only export their goods but also produce them in Nigeria.
