Pakistan fertilizer offtake surges 25.5% in September as DAP slumps 30%

Pakistan fertilizer offtake rose 25.5% year on year in September 2026 to 371,000 tonnes of nutrients, driven by urea, according to the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC) monthly review.
Urea sales climbed 42.5% to 611,000 tonnes, while DAP fell 30.4% to 68,000 tonnes. By nutrient, nitrogen offtake rose 36.1% and potash 32.7%, while phosphate dropped 20.4%.
Punjab and Sindh drove the urea gain, up 59.7% and 49.5%. Urea offtake fell to almost zero in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where sale and distribution of nitrogen fertilizers is banned. DAP sales fell in every province, by 18% in Punjab and 47% in Sindh.
For the full Kharif 2026 season (April to September), nutrient offtake was flat at 2.17 million tonnes. Urea rose 8.4% to 3.37 million tonnes, while DAP fell 25.4% to 485,000 tonnes. Domestic production reached 717,000 tonnes in September, including 508,000 tonnes of urea and 72,000 tonnes of DAP. Domestic prices edged up, with DAP up 2.6% month on month and urea up 0.7%.
The phosphate slump mirrors pressure across South Asia, where high import costs are also driving an India DAP shortage during rabi sowing.
