Volatus Aerospace secures national drone contract to support Canada’s precision agriculture growth

Volatus Aerospace has signed a national agricultural drone services contract with a major North American crop intelligence provider, expanding its footprint in Canada’s precision agriculture market.

Under the agreement, Volatus will carry out multispectral aerial surveys across 21 agricultural sites located in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec. Each site will be flown twice during the growing season to capture high-resolution data on plant health and crop conditions. Survey operations are already underway.

The project positions Volatus to capitalize on the rising demand for scalable, technology-enabled farming solutions. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, smart farming — including drone and sensor use — is becoming central to improving yields, reducing input costs, and advancing sustainable production.

“This contract showcases Volatus’ unique ability to scale drone operations efficiently across Canada,” said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace. “It also sets the stage for future innovation using autonomous and remotely operated drone systems to support the evolving needs of smart agriculture.”

Volatus is currently developing operational models that integrate beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) permissions and drone-in-a-box capabilities to enable persistent, automated crop monitoring throughout the growing season.

Beyond immediate agricultural value, the collected data could be integrated with digital platforms used for yield forecasting, crop insurance claims, or variable-rate input decisions, adding utility for agtech developers, insurers, and agronomists across the value chain.

This contract adds to Volatus’ growing portfolio of commercial drone services, demonstrating its ability to execute large-scale, time-sensitive projects across industries including utilities, oil and gas, healthcare, and public safety.

Volatus Aerospace provides piloted and remotely piloted aerial systems for cargo and intelligence applications. With expertise rooted in over a century of collective aviation experience, the company delivers scalable, technology-driven solutions across critical sectors in North America and globally.

Europe is falling behind in this field. The concerns 30 years ago was reasonable. Now not so much. We need crops that can survive in a more extreme future climate. Handle droughts and hot weather better. Crops that are less tasty to pests like hogs and deere.
