EuroChem renews EcoVadis sustainability certification for Brazil phosphate complex

EuroChem’s mining and fertilizer complex at Serra do Salitre in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state has renewed its “Committed” certification from EcoVadis, the global sustainability ratings platform. The assessment covers environmental impact, labor practices, ethical standards, and sustainable procurement across the facility’s operations.

The Serra do Salitre complex, which EuroChem acquired from Yara International for $410 million in 2021, has an annual production capacity of 1 million metric tons of phosphate fertilizers including MAP, NP, SSP, and TSP. The facility has been recognized by the Brazilian Institute of Mining for its circular economy practices, including a closed-loop water system that recycles 35 billion liters of water annually and an energy recovery system that generates 40% of the facility’s power from heat captured during sulfuric acid production.

EuroChem said it submitted 50 initiatives to EcoVadis grouped by ESG themes to maintain and improve its standing at the next reassessment in 12 months. The certification provides supply-chain credibility as Brazilian agribusiness buyers increasingly require ESG compliance from input suppliers.
