The facility will feature an eight-bin volumetric blending system designed to handle a wider range of products, including slow-release nitrogen fertilizers and micronutrients. A Procote treatment system will allow the co-op to offer treated fertilizer products.
The project also includes automated blending, overhead load-out scales and a bucket elevator receiving system. The redesigned layout will eliminate the need for loaders to operate inside the blending shed, which the co-op says will improve workplace safety.
Additional improvements include a new fertilizer office, upgraded conveyors and loading systems, improved traffic circulation, and better site grading and drainage. The co-op has not disclosed the facility’s planned storage capacity or annual throughput.
The investment comes as Canadian agricultural retailers seek to expand product offerings and support growers managing input costs ahead of the next planting season. The investment comes as Prairie retailers compete for growers facing high input costs, with suppliers such as Nutrien offering financing rates as low as 4.9% to Canadian farmers.
